Every so often, two platforms meet in a way that feels less like planning and more like the universe giving a gentle nudge toward a shared mission. This crossover between Equilawbrium and Studying Law Around the World is exactly that. Each platform tells its own stories, yet both believe that the legal profession grows stronger when we learn from one another, share our journeys openly, and build community across borders. Claudio Klaus has been connecting lawyers worldwide through thoughtful conversations, while Equilawbrium supports legal professionals who are also working parents as they navigate the realities of practice and family life. Together, they remind us that law is not only about rules, it is about people.
That belief comes to life through Claudio himself. He is one of those rare individuals whose presence feels like momentum, with magnetic energy, contagious curiosity, and a genuine commitment to uplifting others. His podcast has kept me company on many early morning rides to work, turning an ordinary commute into a classroom of courage and connection. Watching him consistently create, encourage, and build community has been a powerful motivator for me to keep pushing forward with Equilawbrium. His work is a reminder that meaningful change is built one conversation, one story, and one act of generosity at a time. If the current and next generation of lawyers continue to embrace this spirit of openness, the future of our profession is bright.
This conversation becomes even more meaningful when we hear from Claudio not only as a lawyer, communicator, and mentor, but also as a father. In this Father’s Day month, it feels fitting to highlight a voice that shows how deeply fatherhood shapes leadership, purpose, and the way we define success. Claudio speaks with honesty about presence, priorities, and the small moments that matter most. He reminds us that a meaningful legal career and a meaningful family life are not competing dreams; they can grow together. It is an honour to welcome him to Equilawbrium, and I hope his reflections encourage every reader to embrace both their aspirations and the people they love most.
Without further ado, let’s get started!

Part 1 - Introduction
Hi, my name is... Claudio Klaus.
Year of call to the Bar: Canada 2026, Brazil 2024.
Type of practice, your role, and where: Private practice at Northview Law.
How many children do you have? One 1-and-a-half year old.
What do you do for self-care or stress relief? Drive to the lake, walks, family time.
What would you do for work if you weren’t in the legal profession? Communication roles.
Part 2 - The first “Dual 10” Challenge: within the first 10 years post-license
Equilawbrium: Do you have a master plan for your career path? What is the driving force behind your career decisions? What are the important things to consider as you are figuring out your career path?
Claudio: My career evolved along the way. Working across different legal systems and professional environments taught me the importance of adaptability, curiosity, and staying open to unexpected opportunities. The driving force behind my decisions has always been people, purpose, and growth. I tried to choose paths that would allow me to learn continuously, contribute meaningfully, and build genuine relationships.
One thing I learned is that careers are rarely linear. Often, the experiences that shape you most are not the ones you originally planned for. My advice is to stay curious, stay humble, and avoid measuring your progress against someone else’s timeline. Focus on becoming reliable, thoughtful, and useful to others. Over time, those qualities create opportunities and trust.
Equilawbrium: Please list one soft skill that contributed to where are you now and suggestions on how to cultivate it.
Claudio: Listening has been one of the most important skills in my journey. Whether in legal practice, networking, parenting, or podcasting, people remember when they feel genuinely heard and understood.
I think listening can be cultivated by becoming more present in conversations. Ask thoughtful questions. Be interested in people without immediately thinking about your next response. In law, technical ability matters a great deal, but strong professional relationships are built through trust and human connection.
Equilawbrium: Please list one hard skill that contributed to where are you now and suggestions on how to cultivate it.
Claudio: Legal research and clear communication have been essential for me. Being able to take complex information and explain it in a practical and understandable way is incredibly valuable in any area of law.
The best way to cultivate this skill is through repetition and curiosity. Read widely, write consistently, and seek feedback often. I also believe that creating content, whether through writing, presentations, or podcasting, helps lawyers become stronger communicators because it teaches you how to explain ideas clearly to different audiences.
Part 3 - The second “Dual 10” Challenge: have kids in their first 10 formative years
Equilawbrium: How do you juggle work/life responsibilities? Is it possible to have a family life and a work life simultaneously and harmoniously?
Claudio: I do not think balance means everything is perfectly equal every day. Some days work requires more attention, and other days family comes first. What matters most is being intentional and present wherever you are.
For me, harmony comes from remembering why I work in the first place. My family is not separate from my professional life. They are a central part of the motivation behind it. I also learned that asking for help and building support systems is important. Parenting works best when it is shared with others.
I believe it is possible to build a meaningful legal career while raising children, but it requires flexibility, communication, and realistic expectations. You will not do everything perfectly, and that is part of being human.
Equilawbrium: What is the one parenting tip or trick that you must share?
Claudio: I wish I had understood earlier how quickly small moments become meaningful memories. We often think the important moments are the major milestones, but many of the moments that stay with us are the ordinary routines, bedtime stories, walks, quiet conversations together, etc.
Equilawbrium: What do you find most rewarding having kid(s) ≤10 years of age?
Claudio: One of my favorite moments is simply hearing my child laugh and run toward me after a long day. There is something grounding about that. It reminds me what truly matters and helps put professional stress into perspective very quickly.
Part 4 - Achieving Equilawbrium: how to survive & rise from the “Dual 10” Challenges
"Your career is important, but your value as a person is not measured only by productivity or titles. Success looks different in different seasons of life, and it is okay for priorities to evolve over time." – Claudio Klaus
Equilawbrium: What is your biggest challenge going through the Dual 10 phase? Any advice for our readers who are living and breathing this phase and trying to survive and excel?
Claudio: Although I am new member of the bar I have been in the workforce as a professional for many years, one of the biggest challenges is managing uncertainty while growing professionally and personally at the same time. Career development, family life, and personal growth often happen simultaneously, and learning how to navigate those responsibilities requires resilience and perspective.
My advice is to stop chasing perfection. You do not need to prove yourself every single day. Focus on consistency instead. Small efforts repeated over time matter more than occasional big moments. Also, build community. Both law and parenting can become isolating without supportive people around you. Strong relationships make difficult seasons much more manageable.
Equilawbrium: What is your take-home message for our readers who are trying to find their “equilawbrium”?
Claudio: Your career is important, but your value as a person is not measured only by productivity or titles. Success looks different in different seasons of life, and it is okay for priorities to evolve over time.
You can be ambitious and present with your family at the same time. It may not always feel easy, but it is possible to build a life that reflects both professional goals and personal values. Not all firms and environments might support that, so it also matters that you will find a team that will support and value that.
Equilawbrium: What is the one-word encouragement/support that you would want us to remember?
Claudio: Grace.
